When I first started building websites and creating my online empire, websites like Reddit and Digg were awesome places to go and get a juicy backlink.
Sure, I know what 99% of you reading this are screaming at the screen at this moment in time – ‘What about the traffic Chris…WHAT ABOUT THE TRAFFIC???’
Well yeah, extra social traffic was cool enough…but in those days backlinks brought in the dough!
Yep, a decent amount of backlinks would rocket your website onto the first page of Google – didn’t really matter if your website was a garbage affiliate-based website or not – backlinks rocked the SEO world!
All that has changed – and that’s a good thing, sites like Reddit and Digg are now used in the correct manner (to post relevant and interesting articles and therefore draw in traffic the ‘right’ way!).
But which is better from a webmaster’s point of view?
Which will work best for you – Reddit vs Digg?

Conclusion (Or My Favorite!)
Personally, it’s Reddit for me every time…but at times in my career…I’ve not exactly been on speaking terms with the social media news ‘big boys’.
What do I mean by this?
Well, I’ve received my fair amount of bans over the years!
Maybe I just didn’t want to admit that these sites had caught up with blogger’s sneaky tactics? Maybe I was just unlucky?
But, from a ‘marketing my website’ point of view – it has to be Reddit for me!
The social platform hosts content published by a vast network of users…in total, it attracts almost 164 million unique visitors every month.
My only gripe with the site is that they are too good at spotting self-promotion – webmasters and bloggers beware (and behave!).
Now over to you…
What is your favorite out of the two?
Do you have any past experiences with them that you’d like to share?
Do you have any nifty marketing tactics with them, that you think we’d find interesting (we’d LOVE to hear about these!)
