Make Money While in School Without Getting a Job

Make Money While in School Without Getting a Job

It’s quite a bold title really isn’t it – make money while in school without getting a job!

How many students do you think I’ll draw in with this headline?

Well, I decided to cover this subject today because it seems to be a very popular one at the moment ( and rightly so! ).

College is expensive, and for those of us planning to apply to school soon, we have a lot of saving up to do and not a lot of time to do it.

So I decided to carry out a little research into the work options a student can fit around his/her long school hours for this article. See if there’s something that takes your fancy…

#1 Become a Social Animal

Are you one of the lucky ones that have built up a strong base of followers on a social network?

If so, you could be onto a right winner!

Let’s start with YouTube! If you have the knack with making pretty popular videos you probably have a pretty decent following for you channel right?

Make up companies ( and many other companies ) are desperately looking for these types of channels. Always leave contact information for business inquiries on your channel homepage.

social media sites

YouTube themselves are always on the lookout for channels that attract views for their Partner Program. To be considered for this program you need 100 subscribers to your channel along with a pretty clean account ( I hope you’ve been up to no mischief!!! ).

If you are excepted into this program you get the awesome perk of being able to monetize your videos. This means that a a 5 to 10 second advertisement will play at the beginning of all your videos and you will get a commission off each and every one!

But don’t just stop there – many social networks have affiliate programs that will jump at you if you have enough followers! Get out there and do a little research – you’ll be amazed at what cut some of these advertisers are offering.

#2 Internet Marketing

A few years ago I would of passed over this option because of the start-up costs involved – not any longer my friends!

These days the online marketing university where I learned my trade offers a completely FREE start -up course which includes two FREE websites and all the tools needed to succeed.

It’s a step-by-step tutoring process in text lessons AND video lessons – it rocks!

This website wouldn’t exist without the guidance and education these guys supplied me ( it is actually being hosted on their platform as we speak! ).

The community is called the Wealthy Affiliate community and it is the ONLY place to be if you are serious about building an online business. Internet marketing is perfect for those looking to make a little extra AND those who are looking into full time work online.

#3 Work Online With Mini Jobs

This is the easiest way to earn a little extra cash online but don’t expect to get rich through it!

Millions of people sign up with GPT ( Get Paid To ) or PTC ( Paid To Click ) sites and make a steady second income on a weekly basis.

These sites offer you the chance to make legitimate cash by carrying out rather mundane jobs ( tasks ). These tasks include:

  • Completing online surveys
  • Data entry
  • Search relevance tasks
  • Proof reading
  • Website reviews
  • Watching videos
  • Signing up for free retail offers

This is just the tip of the iceberg – different sites offer different avenues of earning!

Earn with clixsenseMy personal favorite is Clixsense due to the amount of earning options it has in one place. When I first started out online I used to earn pretty decent money out of this site but it was hard, hard work.

Patience and dedication are the key to succeeding with Clixsense so if you think you carry these two traits I suggest checking out our full review HERE.

The site has been up and running for several years now and it’s never missed a payment. The support and the forum are excellent providing help whenever you need it and tips from the more successful members.

What are you waiting for – it’s FREE to join and to use!

#4 Program Stuff

This may be a long shot but I had to include it as one of my good friends has made steady money from it over the last decade or so…

Programming TV’s or remote controls!

Seriously guys – this form of money-on-the-side can really rock, especially when word gets around.

This friend of mine used to work in a TV and Video showroom but he is by no means an expert – he just knows how to set up a TV from the box.

program televisionsNobody has the time to fumble through the instructions for a new plasma TV or a new all-in-one remote control. This is where you come in – offer your service for a ‘cash in hand’ fee.

My friend usually charges about $10 and the job never takes him longer than 15 mins. It’s not his full time job but it brings him in great ‘pocket money’ on a weekly basis.

If somebody needs help with a DVD player, TV or remote EVERYBODY knows he is the man to call!

But you don’t have to stop at TV and Video – program anything! If you have experience with computers offer a service in that sector ( you’re bound to be cheaper than the big computer store alternative ).

Most people are not that technically minded and new equipment usually comes with a biblical-sized instruction booklet. Get out there and offer your help!

  1. This is a great article for students to read if they want to earn some bucks for their allowance. Instead of just wasting their time chatting with friends, why not spend their time in a productive way.

    1. Cheers Fernando!!
Glad you agree – when I was studying I constantly had to find new ways to draw money in ( I was flat broke in college! ).
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your opinion 🙂

  2. Hi Chris,
Thank you for all of the options you present here. If I might ask, based on effort and cost vs reward, which program would be your top recommendation?

    1. Hi Paul,
I would always recommend affiliate marketing as a legit and effective way of making money ( especially online! ). You can find free internet marketing tools and tutorials at the Wealthy Affiliate. Read our full review on their services HERE
Thanks for stopping by and good luck with your earning efforts!

  3. Hello Fernando, this is great idea for students, people that are making plans to go to school and even for everybody, I might add. Anyone that is fortunate enough to cross path with this post will surely be thankful for it. Keep up the good work buddy.

  4. Great stuff Chris! I love all four of your ideas to make money while in school. It is never too early to make money even while in school. I wish I was more entrepreurial during my school days. In this day and age, becoming a social animal can really make money for you. I mean look at those YouTube stars! I am impress with them seriously. Thanks for sharing Chris!

    1. Hi Dlansing,
I also wished I had more of an entrepreneur’s mind during my school days – would have been a much smoother ride through my twenties 🙂
Glad you liked the four points we’ve covered here in the article – pop back and let us know if you decide to try one out!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your opinion.

  5. Today’s college costs are extremely expensive and unless you’re one of the foolish ones who take out college loans, not only for their tuition and board, but for living expenses a job is necessary. Not only does a college student lose 4 years of income while in college they also burden themselves with excessive debt without the probability of getting a decent paying paying job. Your ideas of jobs for students fit in their lifestyle. As a former guidance counselor in high school I will pass on your website to other counselors.

    1. Hi Mac, Thank you very much!
Share the content wherever you feel it will be most useful – glad you found the recommendations up to standard 🙂

  6. Hi Chris – Great post. It never cease to amaze me how many different ways there are to make money. Just by being slightly different and thinking outside the box you can create a good income.
Anyone who Is looking to get into Affiliate Marketing really needs to look at the Wealthy Affiliate program.
Personally I find YouTube a bit strange. They banned one of my videos because it was offensive and broke their rules. It basically stated that you can potentially make some money by building an online business. Yet they can show videos of people being blown up or mugged – Strange.

    1. Hi Mark,
Yeah I know what you mean about YouTube – I have also suffered that ‘earn money’ fate in their hands. I had a video banned whilst others were posting vids of blatant make money scams and getting 100’s of views. Still can’t figure out why they targeted me first!
I tend to use my head a bit these days and water my video headlines down a bit – go for less ‘make money now’ type headlines!

  7. I definitely need to share this post with my daughter! She is starting college right now and is already wondering how she can start making money while studying. I will tell her that using Social Media can help her make money without getting a job yet! She will surely love this idea. I am not sure if Clixsense can be used in our country but it looks promising as well. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Hello again,

after your article about the best cash back sites, I came upon this one and was intrigued to read about how to make money while in school without getting a job.

While I am not at school anymore, it is always a good thing to make a little extra cash.

I will definitely have a look at Clixsense. I never heard of that so far.
    Wondering what it is exactly.
How much can you really earn at Clixsense and how much time do you have to spend there?

    1. Hello again Moritz,
Clixsense is a great site for earning but you must be willing to do some pretty mundane tasks. The sky’s the limit there – the more work you put in the money money you’ll get out!!!

  9. If only I have found your post earlier. I have conceptualised an animation “Creativity Starts From A Belief” many years ago and it received more than 300k viewers on YouTube. Back then I do not know about monetization. Many ppl took the video and placed onto their channel. Guess I have to create another awesome video to make it up.

    1. Oh that’s a shame Florence – a lot of money in monetizing YouTube videos these days 🙂
Get back out there and get those creative juices flowing again!

  10. Hey,

I love the options you provided here. There are so many ways to make online these days and there is definitely enough for everyone to get involved.
I too joined Wealthy Affiliate not too long ago and so far I’ve learned an incredible amount. I love that it’s free to join and you can create your own websites etc. all for free.
Great options here for those who want to get involved in making money online.
    Thanks and great post,

  11. Wow! I love your website and the article for students about how they can make money without getting a job. These days it’s harder for college graduates to find a job. It seems to me that they should be a targeted audience for this information. It may be very important to try to get to the while they are still young. It’s not that I would suggest their college education is a waste but it will offer them options and a future. Something that may take a while to find after graduation.

  12. Hello mate. I have just spent quite a bit of time reading and i need to say i did enjoy that time, nice and clean layout. I like your choice of colors and visuals too..very attractive site and catchy titles, well written, detailed reviews although written straight to the point, well done mate!!

    1. Well thank you Andrzej ( apologies if I’ve got your name wrong! ),

We LOVE positive feedback here ( obviously! ) so it’s great to hear you approve of our site setup – make sure you spread the word!!!!!

  13. Hi Chris. I hope I’ve been reading this post when attending school several years ago 🙂 But well, I believe it is never too late as long as I am still alive.

I’ve stumbled upon your website when searching for some information about earning money online. Affiliate marketing is a new thing for me, so I will research it a bit more.

Also, I agree with you about helping in technical solution. I have an idea to monetize my skill in Ms. Excel. Not many people in my local area understand even the basic of Excel (because it is too “tech-y”), so it is a good chance to monetize it.

However, I realize that is not my passion so I simply shift focus first to what I would love to do more. I’ll be sure to check again your site because it seems you have many good information here. Thanks 🙂

  14. I wish I knew about this when I was school I would have definitely been doing some of these tips, especially internet marketing. I think making Youtube videos is a huge. A lot of people love the fact of watching videos than reading some times. Just have to make it interesting and who knows how much money you can make. Wealthy Affiliate is legit. I did my research. Also one day my girlfriend was looking for ways to make money and she came across Wealthy Affiliate across the interenet, it was a top 10 article on ways to make money from and it came in at number 1.

    1. Yeah the WA is an excellent option to earn online Brandon! Don’t be fooled by the hype though – it requires a lot of work to succeed through their platform!

  15. ChrisEvans,I wanted to tell you how much i enjoyed your site. Making money while in school is great way to get ahead- and your site makes it clear Wealthy Affiliate has the tools to teach you how to succeed. I also found navigating your site to be clear and direct. Ill be sure to let my friends know to check your site out. Thanks

  16. I wish that I could have started with internet marketing when I was in school. Just imagine all the experience that I could have had at this moment. Unfortunately life does not work that way.

Take it from someone that have to live with regrets. If you are still in school, then I would strongly advise you to learn how to build a website, because this online industry is just awesome.

  17. Hey chris great info especially for some one in school. I really like the internet marketing because there so much potential in there to have a full scale business and earn a great revenue from working from home. Also Wealthy Affiliate is a great place to start learning online marketing .Will recommend to friends.

  18. Well I like your ideas, but I think that going through social network or offer any kind of service such as “program stuff” might take long time to promote, or to get enough “word of mouth” support to earn good income.

    So my idea is to use the same ideas you mentioned in your post but use the time you need to establish the trust in any single idea by making a combination of your four ideas;
Start building your online business with “Wealthy Affiliate”. Support it with your “YouTube” channel abilities to promote your “online mini jobs” or even your “local services” such as programming stuff.

Thank you for this nice post 🙂

  19. Hi Chris, I got to say you’ve got an Awesome Website here! I really enjoyed reading this article for our college students too. We all know they are our tomorrow! I hope this reaches millions of college students because it encourages them to be entrepreneurs. I believe that’s what the world needs more of. I wish I would’ve stumbled across this website while I was in college.

  20. I was thinking, it would’ve been great if I discovered online marketing earlier when I was in school. I just graduated last year. And I was thinking, if I started way earlier, I may have already been making some income through online business by the time I graduate. But I discovered this after graduating college and I was in desperate searching for a job at home.

  21. Man, I really do want to make money alongside my studies. I’m curious about those GPT or PTC sites that you’ve mentioned. I do have some concerns though. What would you say is the typical earnings per hour with a site click clixsense or other similar sites? Also, will this take up a lot of my time?

    1. Ahh right – these sites are more for earning that ‘extra money’ every month Lucas – you’ll have to work really hard at them to earn a proper monthly wage. I’d say about $100 to $200 is the norm for them on a monthly scale.

  22. This is a good topic to write and share about!  I have 2 nieces who are sisters and one is near university age while her sister has graduated and just starting work.  I need to share some of what I do with both of them.  We all know how boring a standard 9-5 can get…

Everybody who is old enough should and can make money online!  As you mentioned there are so many legitimate opportunities for young people.  If they start now they could retire by their early 30s!

    1. Oh yes Stella – we certainly all know how boring a nine to five job can be! 🙂

Yes I agree with you – youngsters should be looking online to see if they fit work at home employment, or at least try. Jobs are harder and harder to come by these days, even if you are over-qualified!

Thanks for reading the article – hope you enjoyed your visit.

  23. Great tips on making money while in school without getting a job. During my time, these were never an option. We will have to get a job to make money. Times have changed and we have to adapt to the changes, else you’ll get left behind. I have daughter who is still in middle school. Tips like these could come-in handy for these kids someday. Teaching them young to have that entrepreneurial mindset is one of the key to success in this life. At the same time, it will also help you as parent as well since you don’t have to provide everything to your children while they are at school since they can cover some of the expenses on their own. Great stuff!

    1. This made me laugh – “since they can cover some of the expenses on their own”

Question – when will kids ever NOT tap their parents up for money?

I have two, and if they were millionaires…they would still try and get more money out of me! 🙂
