The aim of your content should be to offer something your readers can utilize for common problem solving or to gain insight. If the content is relevant, people want to share it with others and read more.

The mistake many people make though is that blogging is about self-promotion. Blogging strategies should build your site and cultivate an audience and this is something rarely achieved if you’re only talking about yourself.

What’s the Purpose of Your Blog?

You need to define yourself so readers know what you’re writing about. Build a strategy to reach new readers and be true to goals that you set in place for your site.

Are you trying to promote products? Are you adding in to conversation or starting conversations on your blog? Are you commenting on posts to your blog?

All approaches should be valid and you need to make sure that you’re content is valuable and can continue to reach an audience. If your blog isn’t much worth sharing, it’s not going to get much attention.

Utilize SEO

The most important things to incorporate into your content is SEO. Identify keywords that are trending in your chosen niche and incorporate these words into your site and content. Think about how to strategically incorporate them into the title of your post and scatter them throughout the post.

Utilize SEO

Keep the relevant keywords close to the beginning as this will make sure your posts and blog stay close up in search engines. You should keep the titles of your blog less than 120 characters as it makes it easier for readers to share.

Share, Share and Share Some More!

You should be sharing your blog posts every place you can in regards to social media sites. Without promoting posts, you aren’t going to have readers coming back to your site.

You also should make sure your blog is easy to share if readers find it valuable. There are several add-ons and tool bars to help readers share your blog easier.

I also will check out the free tutorials on WA for my learning so that I do not make many mistakes.
This has been a great read and helped me to see that I can do this with learning what I need to and going forward with my plans.

    1. No problem Shelia – really glad you were able to take so much from the article we published here. Good luck with your online journey 🙂

  2. Hi Chris,

Thank you for very this information. I am new in the online business world and blogging, and your post was very helpful for me. I especially liked that you mentioned the importance of providing valuable content before SEO. I totally agree with you that we should write for the readers, not for ourselves.

I have a question regarding utilizing FB.
When you promote your posts on FB, do you use your personal FB page or do you have a separate page for your business? If Yes, what are the benefits of separating them? I would love to hear your opinion on this.

    1. Hi Yuko,
Yes I normally use a separate business page to promote my posts because most of my friends have no real interest in marketing. At the end of the day you want to be putting your posts in front of the right followers 🙂

      1. For f##k sake mate – this sort of cheap backlink hunting will hurt your site more than it will hurt mine! Read the articles we have here if you want to learn how to market your blog correctly.

  3. Hi, Chris! It is an important thing to make your blog noticed by your targeted audience. You mentioned clearly about all the things that you should do to attract them.
I highlight about how often you post your blog with valuable content and spreading to other free sites as well.
Free of scams is a must because you should build your healthy relationship with your audience with honesty and integrity.

  4. You make it sound so easy! I’m still working on getting mine seen by someone somewhere..

I struggle with the chattiness side of things, especially with social media and all the different ones..

Would you say it’s key to get your blog established with content first before tackling facebook or other social media sites? There has to be a substantial site in place for someone to want to return back?

    1. That’s a really hard question to answer Sammi – I would say that you should aim to have at least 20 posts/articles on your page before people take your site seriously. With social media it’s all about building up a following – people who will share your work and spread the news! 🙂

  5. Chris,I wanted to tell you how much i enjoyed your site. I found there to be a lot of useful information, specifically when you talk about how to get your blog noticed. I also found navigating your site to be clear and direct. Ill be sure to let my friends know to check your site out. Thanks

  6. I’m really interested in what you said about tutorials or pillar articles. I love the idea of having a sort of membership website or academy. I’m using WordPress for my site and I’m interested in providing some free and some “pay as you go” tutorials. Do you have any suggestions for plugin’s that will help me accept either payments of memberships?

I have seen numerous examples on other people’s sites but it’s really hard to locate the plugin options they are using – they always look a bit more professional than what I find!

    1. Hi Wenda,

Well in a lot of these cases I’d say the marketers that own the websites are probably using paid plugins – that’s why they are always looking more professional than the ones you find!

Free plugins are often a little shaky – especially when you are using them for something this important. I’m afraid I don’t know of any off-hand – you’ll have to do a bit of research yourself and find out what’s what!

  7. I agree with you, content is the key in attracting the right audience and then getting them to stay on your site (which is also, obviously, really important!).

From my experiences, I am going on Google when I need some information or help – I am searching for aid in a way, I am skipping if the content is boring, repetitive or just a bunch of words that does not help me.

But when I find what I need then I bookmark the page and I visit the site several times in the future. For me it is very important that this page opens quickly, easy to read and there are no popup ads.

Great article – very engaging 🙂

    1. Hi Deva,

I really don’t know what it is with webmasters choosing the central popup adverts these days? As you may have noticed – I have a small popup that comes in the bottom right corner of the screen, people can still read the page with this open!

These central popup adverts take over the whole screen begging you to sign up for a newsletter or some shitty ebook – it’s quite ridiculous and amateur really!

I agree with your concept of content needing to help people solve a problem – VERY important for a successful webpage!

Great speaking with you Deva – thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
