Finding Blog Ideas – 2 Must-Have Resources

Finding Blog Ideas

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to manufacture good article ideas out of thin air? In this post we will be looking at a couple of FREE resources used for finding blog ideas.

1) Ever Head of Google Alerts?

Every hour there are quite literally millions of posts and articles being indexed into Google. We can capitalize on this new information and use it for finding blog ideas by setting up relatively simple ‘alerts’.

Google AlertsThis is an awesome way to get short article ideas injected straight into your email account on a daily basis.

If you want to be an authority in whatever niche you choose, you should be on top of things. To do this you are going to want to use the Google Alerts function:

Access Google Alerts

This awesome function from Google will be sending you so many blog article ideas every day you will not be able to get through them all. You will also be able to stay on top of all the new products being released and easily locate their first reviews to!

The early bird catches the worm – set up at least five Google Alerts and watch the new ideas pour in each and every day!

2) Question & Answer Sites

I have to admit that I was a little late in the day when it came to leveraging good article ideas from Q & A sites.

If you are aware of the questions people are asking within your niche you are going to have a strong base to build your content upon. Finding blog ideas through Q & A sites is great as you can take questions and elaborate on them in your site.

Q & A Sites

Here are the main ‘players’ I tend to use to great effect:

  • ehow.com

All the ideas and concepts will really start flowing when you hit up these sites so make sure you make some sort of list. I usually create a master document with my short article ideas and then start writing them out.

You need to constantly top up your blog article ideas or your site will start to appear a little stagnant. The bloggers that manage to attract the most traffic are the bloggers that release new content daily.

This type of post frequency will really aid you create an ‘authority site’ instead of a flimsy little niche site. Don’t sit about thinking about the short term – think long term with your good article ideas and all the hard work you do now is going to lead to sustained success.

  1. Hello!
This was a very informative post! I very often have a very difficult time coming up with ideas for new posts. I usually use stumble upon to see different websites related to my niche and get some ideas.
I never even knew about Google alerts. This is amazing!
I will make sure to access that. It seems very helpful!
    Thank you for sharing!

    1. No problem Katerina – glad you found it so helpful! Set up those alerts as soon as you can – you’ll see a tidal wave of related articles hitting your mailbox in no time at all 🙂

  2. Hey Chris, great site vey informative. You have a wide range of products there. I was particularly blown away by your EBay review. I myself have a few items to sell and your review gave me an insight into the endless possibilities that I could use to enable me to sell and create some space at my home. Thanks again

    1. Hi Sherma, you had me completely confused there…until I remembered the eBay article I published here earlier this week LOL. Cheers, I’m glad you are enjoying your time here 🙂

  3. When you start blogging it may seem easy to create content first but over time you feel you run out of content ideas. To be honest, such a feeling may come only if you are just starting. In reality if you do some research on the web you will easily find countless ideas for creating content without any need to copy someone else’s content. The tools you mention in your article are really must-have resources, especially I prefer question-answer sites.

    1. Thanks Rufat!
The question and answer sites are a great resource for blog ideas when you find yourself in a writer’s rut 🙂

  4. Hey Chris,

These are a couple great resources for finding new ideas to blog about.

    I use both.

I really like forums too. Sometimes you’ll find a thread with 100’s of comments on a topic that would be perfect for your blog.

QnA sites are really great too. I like finding a thread where there’s a question with tens of people waiting for answers.

    Anyway, great post man.

  5. Hey, Chris!

I have always wanted to get in to blogging, but I always end up hitting a brick wall after I write the first few sentences of my chosen topic 🙁

I have never heard of Google Alerts , and it sounds like an awesome tool to leverage.

As for question and answer sites, the thought had never really crossed my mind, so thanks for some awesome website suggestions, and I will look some up now for some content ideas.

  6. Hey Chris,

Great post, that is the first time i heard about google alert tool, always i feel like what i can post today on my website & always struggling , this tools may help to come with some great ideas to publish new posts :), thanks Chris for sharing & good luck

  7. Chris, I used Google Alert a while back but doesn’t know how to implement it on my brainstorms. They just send me a lot of articles and most of them are quite relevant. The keywords I chose are “blog” and “work at home”. What about you?

I’d love to hear more about how to use Google Alerts.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Well you have to cut down the keywords you are using there Anh – you are going far too broad with those two I’m afraid. Something like ‘work at home at marketing’ may work a little better and get you more targeted alerts!

  8. I am still struggling to use Google Alerts because I do not know what to search for. I found it is so much easier to rank for a new and fresh keyword or product review because by the time it is launched there will not be a lot of competition for it.

I also found that forums related your niche can provide a lot of information on new product launches.

    1. Yep, all good points mate! You don’t have to use what we cover here – find your own little processes and go for it! Good luck! 🙂
