Best Cash Back Websites – The Top 4 Players

Best Cash Back Websites - The Top 4 Players

A lot of online shoppers are opting to use some of the best cash back websites to earn a portion of their outlay back every time they purchase something.

I have to be honest – I’ve never tried this method of online earning before…but my girlfriend has ( many a time! ). She is the one who pushed me to do a little research and dig down into this online shopping function.

I was a little dubious about it – I’ll admit that!

But after a couple of hours research my partner and I had a short and sweet list to test out and she went to town with her credit card ( not literally! ).

It turns out that the best cash back websites are actually VERY legitimate and quite worthwhile – who would have thought?

So here is the article I promised my significant other – a look at the most effective cash back sites available online…

If you are interested in making real money online that can possibly replace or supplement your income regularly check out our #1 Recommendation HERE

How Do These Things Work?

As I touched on above – these sites are a popular way to earn back a percentage of the money you already spend online.

Consumers simply sign up with a cash back website and start shopping! Each site has a list of merchants that the deal works with and you simply pick one and start shopping – easy!

These are some of your best options…

#1 ShopAtHome.com

I decided to cover ShopAtHome.com first as it offers up to an awesome 70% cash back on some of it’s transactions.

You are not that limited in your choice either – the site covers well over 3000 merchants for you to choose from.

Take a look at some of the well known names included in these merchants:

  • Walmart
  • Bath & Body Works
  • Kohls
  • Sears
  • Kmart
  • Target

Not bad eh? There is a payment threshold but that is set at a rather reasonable $20. When you hit that threshold the site will instantly get a check in the post to you.

#2 Ebates.com

Ebates provides coupon codes for over 1,200 top of the range retailers but the cash back percentage is a lot lower then ShopAtHome.com – 25%.

ebates

When you first sign up they tempt you to make a purchase by generously offering a free $5 bill when you buy your first item. It’s not as lucrative as ShopAtHome but it sure is popular!

The payout threshold is set at a really low $5 but they only send the checks out quarterly.

#3 FatWallet.com

I found FatWallet.com to be a lot more modern in feel than the first two options we provided. I think this is mainly down to the fact that it pays out through Paypal as well as the traditional check option.

FatWallet also sends members email alerts when an awesome deal is posted for a specific product or company.

It also has the option for you to earn more through the referral system. Those of you that are familiar with affiliate marketing could well make a tidy extra sum out of these referral commissions!

You don’t have to wait for payment either – as soon as you hit your threshold you can cash-out and get paid instantly!

#4 Swagbucks.com

Now Swagbucks is widely regarded as ‘the daddy’ of these cash back sites due to the earning options it provides. It is also considered one of the elite ‘earn online’ sites due to staying legitimate for so long.

swagbucks

You get the regular cash back function along with the following extra earning options:

  • Complete surveys for a cash reward
  • Use their search bar for rewards
  • Play games for cash rewards
  • Discovering online content for rewards

It really is an impressive ( and popular ) site with numerous little unique earning options popping up every day.

The currency the sites uses is called ‘Swag Bucks’ and these are converted into either cash or retail gift cards. The site pays out instantly through Paypal when the set threshold is met.

The Best Cash Back Websites…

There are hundreds of sites out there like the four we have covered above but I’m afraid not all of them are what they’re cracked up to be.

If you decide on a cash back site other than the ones listed above I would strongly recommend you do your research first.

Always perform a quick search on the site with ‘scam’ included within the query. If this site has ripped anyone off before someone will have voiced their concerns.

I’d also advise looking for the sites that are accepted by Paypal – this is always a pretty decent indication that the site has kept it’s nose clean since starting up!

If cash back sites are not for you why don’t you check out our #1 recommendation ( don’t worry – it’s also FREE! ) through the link HERE

  1. Hi Chris,

thanks for your great article about cash back websites.
I only had heard of Swagbucks before.

I am always very careful when I stumble upon those sites, so it is good to know which sites really work as promised.

Do you now use them yourself regularly, or is it still mostly your partner who is using them?

    Cheers
    Moritz

    1. Hi Moritz,
I’ve used them many times before but I tend to stay away from them these days – this site takes up all my time instead 🙂

  2. Wow, great post here – I didn’t even realise you could get cash back on things like this!! I can’t say I’ve heard of any of the companies listed above, but I recon I’ll definitely be checking one or two of them out!! 🙂
    Thanks for sharing!!
By the way… any idea what sorta money swagbucks pays out for filling in surveys? and if I’ll be able to use some of these sites from the UK?
    Zoe

    1. It works fine for residents of the UK – I live there myself ( Wales! ). The rewards vary from survey to survey – the longer the survey the more it pays out ( usually! ).

  3. Personally, I wouldn’t bother using any of these cash back websites. Well, actually maybe they could be okay to get a bit of money back. My point is though that they are not a good way to earn money online if you are really looking to replace your day job with a full time online income.

The best way to earn money online is to build a profitable website based around a niche that you are interested in. That’s the best way to build it up long term and make it sustainable. Mot other ways of trying to make money online are not very successful.

So although these cash back websites are not scams as such, I wouldn’t really bother with them myself.

  4. Hi Chris, thanks for writing about the passive income. I have also written about Internet Residual Income, which is almost about the same thing. I have to admit that I have learned a lot from this article.

You have mentioned many other sites that you seem to be using yourself. This is helpful in case I want to join them and make some income from those sources and services. Thanks.

  5. I’ve heard of these sites, but never really looked into them. I’m glad you decided to “take one for the team” and see what they’re really about, ha ha. 🙂 I’m now more open to the idea of checking them out.

Swagbucks is the only site listed which gives you a passive income. I signed up with one of their competitors a few years ago and made a whopping $60. Not much, but it’s beer money at the very least.

Swagbucks has an affiliate program where they’ll pay you for each referral in the form of the company’s namesake; which you can in turn convert into real cash. I’ve read awhile ago that Swagbucks put a cap on how many people you can refer. My information might be outdated, so I’m not sure if they changed their policies and removed it. Honestly, it would be smart if they did.

    1. Hi Chris,

I also used to use Swagbucks when I first came online to earn – it’s a tidy little site but the money side of it is pretty low (and slow). I do believe that the referral cap is still in place – which is a bit of a bummer for affiliate marketers like myself!

I’m not 100% sure about this so maybe another visitor could chip in and enlighten us? 🙂
